About Shadywood Communications

Joe Ferry

I've been telling stories since I was old enough to talk.

Sometimes, they would get me into trouble. Like the time I told my mother aliens abducted me from the backyard to explain how I wound up on the other side of a street I wasn't supposed to cross.

As I got older I stopped telling stories and started writing them. When the details are vivid and the words are crisp and the tone is intriguing, it's a thing of beauty. Whether it's a 20,000-word children's book, a 2,000-word college magazine profile, or a 200-word press release, I treat them all the same. I find the story and then communicate it to the audience with the right words.

I want to tell YOUR story.

I will sit down with you and your staff to discuss strategy, to brainstorm ideas, to put a sharp focus on what may be a hazy idea. I bring to the table more than 25 years of public relations, advertising, newswriting and editing experience.

I have had two careers: one as a newspaper reporter and one as a public relations professional. I've worked for several local papers (The Quakertown Free Press, The Intelligencer, The Reporter, and The Morning Call) as well as The Philadelphia Inquirer. I've also worked as the Director of Public Relations for Delaware Valley in Doylestown, Bucks County, and as a Community Relations Coordinator for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

In recent years I've completed freelance assignments for DelVal's alumni magazine. I've also written children's books for Chelsea House and OTTN Publishing.

Bottom line: I KNOW how to get your story across in words that make a difference.
